Acceptance – We only Hurt when we resist
In my experience the only way out of suffering to stop resisting what apparently is. When we allow our resistance to drop our pain usually drops away with it.
When I look at my life their is a constant trying to get more nice, positive experiences, and a struggle to keep unhappy feelings and issues away. Logic, or our mind tells us that this is the best thing to do to prevent evil happening and to get more of the good things in life.
Actually what we are doing when we are trying to get rid of all those nasty things we never want to happen is to keep our mind focussed on them. We focus on what we don’t want. We all know the by now chewed out question “don’t think of an elephant” and what are you thinking about. But fighting the unwanted has as one of its by products that we are keeping it in focus. Focus on the things we dislike or fear is not resolving them.
If what my mind told me about the danger of dropping that focus and allowing things the be as they are is true. If that constant awareness was helpful wouldn’t all my worries, pains and fears been resolved by now.
Actually what I see happening is the direct opposite. All this focus on the unwanted keeps it coming back in an never ending circle. A constant reminder to stay vigilant. But against what??
We did meet the enemy, and their is only one…… Its ourselves.
